Carolina Del Norte
ABV

IBU
The intersection of North Carolina and Mexico is a place of questionable geography but undeniably inspired beer. First brewed for Cinco de Mayo at the Catawba Cantina, Carolina del Norte pays homage to the rich brewing tradition of our Southern neighbor. Handcrafted with Vienna malt and German noble hops, this well-traveled cerveza is clean, crisp, and superbly drinkable.¡Salud!
Tasting Notes:
Malt flavors lead with notes of light toast, delicately complex with some underlying sweetness. The beer has medium-light body with a white frothy head. Hops remain in the background, evident only in its crisp, moderately dry finish.

Cloud Cover – Rising Sun

Cloud Cover Series Hazy IPAs are cloudy, intensely hopped, hugely flavorful, and less bitter than their traditional West Coast counterparts. The series showcases juicy tropical fruit flavors and exotic fresh hop character that have made the New England-style IPA so revered among craft enthusiasts. The beer’s distinctive hazy orange glow is a product of brewing techniques and ingredients unique to the style, as is its soft, frothy mouthfeel. Each release in the Cloud Cover Series is named for a historic weather event in the Carolinas.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time®

IBU
Remember when your mom packed a PB&J sandwich in your lunchbox? The flavors all melded into pure comfort food by noon! Well, we recreated this childhood goodness in a beer! This light brown ale is brewed from five different grains and then aged for weeks on raspberries and roasted peanuts. Take a sip, let the flavors mingle on your palate, and enjoy our PB&J in a glass.
Tasting Notes:
This beer begins life as a light brown ale that provides the bready qualities of the base beer. After fermentation, it is rested on whole roasted peanuts and all-natural raspberry puree, which truly transforms this into a PB&J sandwich in a glass.

Evening Joe
ABV

IBU
Two of the world’s favorite beverages unite in this soul-satisfying, golden-colored coffee beer. Blended with cold-brewed Arabica coffee and natural vanilla flavor, this liquid paradox looks like your evening pint but drinks like your morning cup. Here’s to ending your day as deliciously as it began!
Tasting Notes:
Like the Cream Ale at its roots, the beer is light and crisp, endlessly drinkable. Arabica coffee is introduced after fermentation to impart delicious notes of roast and dark chocolate typically associated with Porters and Stouts, without detracting from the beer’s refreshing quality. Natural vanilla flavor and lactose sugar add a hint of sweet cream to top off this café au lait-inspired cold brew.

Magnum, Cascade

2-Row Pale, Vienna

LD’s
ABV

IBU
In Belgium, strong golden ales are traditionally named after forces of evil. So,we thought it only fitting for this beer to share initials with the meanest little guy in the Catawba Family…the infamous LD, a.k.a. Long Dawg, a.k.a. Little Devil. Like LD himself, our abbey-style Tripel is innocently pale in color, deceptively light in body, and irresistibly “complex.” But don’t be fooled by appearances, lest you suffer the wrath of this tiny terror!
Tasting Notes:
This Belgian-style ale uses roughly three times the malt of a standard “Single,” with an addition of Belgian candi sugar. Fermented with abbey ale yeast, LD’s is bursting with fruity yeast esters and spicy phenols – and a hint of warming alcohol. Flavor descriptors include apple, pear, lemon, banana, clove, peppery spice, and noble hop earthiness.

Peanut Butter
Chocolate Stout
ABV

IBU
Following in the tracks of our famous PB&J comes the second release in this Specialty Series. Taking inspiration from our popular chocolate & beer pairing on the Asheville South Slope, we’ve incorporated the edible art of our local boutique chocolate factory into a beer! Brewed with Chocolate Malts and Midnight Wheat, it was conditioned on locally-sourced cacao nibs, whole roasted North Carolina peanuts, and Madagascar vanilla beans.
Tasting Notes:
This silky smooth stout is a decadent liquid dessert – like a peanut butter cup in a glass. Try it paired with a banana split and vanilla bean ice cream!

HOPness Monster
ABV

IBU
Our Blue Ridge Mountains harbor their own Nessie: Hoppius Heddius, The HOPness Monster. She lurks in the cold, fresh waters of Western North Carolina, rising to terrorize poor, hop-shy souls. As the locals say, “Bless their hearts, they don’t know any better.” With an abundance of fresh Citra and Cascade, this IPA boasts a big biting hop profile with notes of tropical fruit, juicy citrus, and pine. Embrace her beastly charms!

White Zombie®
ABV

IBU
We named this beer as a Halloween seasonal brew. But its refreshing taste makes it a year round staple. Zombie is made according to the Belgian Witbier tradition of using unmalted wheat to create the light body and white sheen. Additions of coriander and orange peel give Zombie a fruity and spicy character, while the hops are subtle and lightly detected. Don’t be scared to blow the head off a Zombie and drink up!
Tasting Notes:

CLT
ABV

IBU
Despite George Washington calling it a “trifling place”, Charlotte evolved from a simple dirt crossroads into a leader of the new South. True to that spirit, Catawba has been evolving Carolinas’ craft brewing since 1999. This new creation, CLT India Pale Ale, offers up a modern, double dry-hopped, in-your-face explosion of tropical fruit and pine. And at 7.2% ABV, like today’s Queen City, don’t trifle with it!

Brown Bear
ABV

IBU
Ursus Americanas, or black bears, are prominent in western North Carolina. But Catawba’s rare Brown Bear also roams these mountains. Its smooth caramel and chocolate notes dominate your first taste, then a subtle dryness cleanses your palate just in time for another sip. This English inspired brown ale is dark and flavorful, yet not too robust or filling. Libate, don’t hibernate!
Tasting Notes:
Chocolate malts create a deep brown color and accent the flavor notes of dark cacao and caramel. The supporting malts buttress a complex body and provide hints of toffee and rich toasted aromas.

Magnum / Goldings / Fuggle
Malt:
Pale / Crystal / Chocolate

Black Dome®
ABV

IBU
Mt. Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi, was aptly named “Black Dome” by our ancestral settlers due to a thick canopy of spruce and for trees that shut out the sun. Our tribute to this Black Mountain range icon is a deep, mystical mix of caramel, chocolate, and roasted malt flavors that glide across the palate. Enjoy this pleasureable journey to our high-country’s dark side!
Tasting Notes:
Roasted, chocolate, and dark caramel malts accent this stout creating hints of burnt, coffee-like flavor in the aroma and mouth feel. This beer is malt forward, but is well attenuated making it a dry stout.

Hooligan
ABV

IBU
This robust, mahogany hued ale is brewed in the classic Scottish “wee heavy” style featuring a profound maltiness and a restrained hop character. Six different brewing grains layer on caramel and toffee sweetness, but the beer seems magically balanced when it reaches your palate. Use caution, though. This Hooligan will blow your bagpipes!
Tasting Notes:
Scotland’s answer to the English Barley Wine is a robust, full-bodied beer, malty-sweet and higher in alcohol, with layers of caramel, toffee, chocolate, dark fruit, and light roast.

IBU
King Don’s is named for one of the original North Carolina brewers who lent his pumpkin prowess to this great collaboration in 2001. This complex beer uses five separate barley styles, and artistic touch of hops, spices normally used for baking, and fresh pumpkin! The flavors meld into a wonderfully smooth, orange-hued beer that sports a luscious, creamy foam head. King Don still rocks!
